Obesity is growing at alarming rates in the world. Not only adults are affected but children are not spared as well. Many children face obesity in the early stages of their lives. Obesity can cause several serious diseases like stroke, heart attacks, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer and even death. Some of the major causes of obesity include bad nutrition, sedentary lifestyle and wrong guidance from parents. Parents should play an important role in inculcating their children the need for healthy eating and more active lifestyle. With time, the children will get used to it and it will become a habit. Here are some tips that parents can use to prevent obesity in their children:
(1) Food Education

Instead of buying fast foods, prepare quality home meals for them for breakfast, lunch and dinner and you can even teach them how to do it themselves. Make them adopt the habit of eating those quality foods for years. For example, instead of buying some french fries at a fast food chain for snacking, why not make some hard boiled eggs for them. It’s not that you need to deprive your children from fast foods totally. You can let them eat but tell them that moderation is key. By inculcating your children the importance of healthy eating, you’ll be amazed when your children are more inclined to eat these healthy and nutritious foods as compared to fast foods.
(2) Active Lifestyle
Teach your children the importance of regular physical activity. Don’t let them watch tv or play video games all day long during the weekend. Make them indulge in some regular sports or exercises. Take them to the park or do some brisk walking or jogging with them. Walk whenever possible. Instead of taking the car to buy some nearby groceries, why not take a walk with your children. All these simple things can pay big dividends in the long run for your children and not making them become a couch potato.
If parents play an active role in raising awareness for proper nutrition and exercise to their children, obesity in the world will decrease.
